It seems like with the start of the new year my mind starts to reel with all of the possibilities of things I want to accomplish, make, share and more. The number one thing on my list is to "beef up" my bullet journal/planner. I have been using it consistently as a planner for many months and enjoy the multitude of lists and calendar features I'm currently utilizing, and now I want to take it a step further.
Pinterest is always a great source of inspiration and here are some things that caught my eye to implement.
We all could use a little more in savings - whether it be an emergency fund or savings for a particular item.
I love the idea of tracking what I spend my money on because often I use cash for my every day spending so I don't have the credit/debit transactions as record, plus I like being able to make notes about the purchase.
The whole point of maintaining a Bullet Journal or Planner is so you don't forget certain dates. However, having a couple of key pages dedicated to tracking specific dates can be really helpful.
And lastly, it wouldn't be a new year without setting at least a few goals.
If you want to work on your planner, bullet journal or traveler's notebook and get it ready for 2018, join us in the Palette & Paper studio on Saturday, January 13 between 11 am - 2 pm. It is an open "planner crop" time, but we do ask that you register here.
We are only 10 days away from Mother’s Day. Do you have gifts for the moms, aunts, mother-in-laws, mommies-to-be and more ready to go? If not, no worries . . . We have compiled a little round-up of fun gifts to buy and make for those special ladies in your life.
Is the “mom” in your life crafty? Or do they aspire to get crafty? Bring her to Palette & Paper so she can explore her craftiness. You could get her a gift certificate or sign-up her up for one of our classes (she would probably like it if you were there too!). We have a bunch of great things coming up!
Give her an early gift and celebrate Mother’s Day with one of our National Scrapbook Day classes featuring Graphic 45 this weekend.
Jann Gray is coming back to P&P later this month with bible journaling and other craft classes. Jann is still finalizing details and we will have details posted soon.
Barbara is leading another Coffee & Canvas later this month and you will be amazed at what you can create on canvas with watercolors and napkins (yes, napkins!).
We are going “global” with Beth Kingston in June. You might recognize Beth from when she was at P&P at the end of 2015 or from her many appearances on HSN.
Ken Oliver will be here for three classes in June also, and it is amazing what you can create with his ColorBursts. Click here for the rundown on all his classes.
Want to pick out a great crafty gift for your “moms”? Here are some of our current favs!
Help her get organized and record memories by setting her up with a Carpe Diem Planner and some amazing Prima Marketing stickers and more (starting at $4).
Is your “mom” a card maker? Help her expand her craft with some embossing folders and die sets to create some unique and unusual cards.
Is your “mom” into mixed media? We have some fun new items she can use in her art work, including these fun oversized “thickboard” oversized tags and new waxes from Finnabair.
Even if crafts aren’t your “mom’s” thing you can still share your hobby with her by giving her a handmade card or gift. Below is some inspiration.
It seems like with each year’s passing that time goes more and more quickly. It leaves me longing for capturing and remembering memories and events. Palette & Paper offers a lot of products to help memorialize those memories. However, a big part of memories is capturing photographs to incorporate into your planner, scrapbook pages, traveler’s notebook, art journal and more.
Most photos are captured using our smartphones (gotta love not having to haul around a separate camera), so I thought I would share a few of my favorite apps for photos, including editing, organizing and printing.
Looking for an app to help boost the colors in your photos? Convert them to black and white? Make them warmer or cooler looking? Add some light flares or bokeh? Try out A Color Story.
It is free with in-app purchases available ranging from $0.99 - $8.99 for all the filters and effects. It is super easy to use, quick at applying filters for preview and doesn’t make any changes to your original picture.
Here is an example of the filters and bokeh you can add with just one-click.
Do you feel uninspired when it comes to taking pictures? How about participating in daily prompts to kick-start your inspiration? The app, Little Moments, has daily prompts available for the month (examples for a few days this month include: lunch, something red, three and pop!).
It also has editing capabilities and “stickers”, including quotes and doodles to add to your pictures. The app is free to download with in-app purchases available ranging from $0.99 - $3.99 to unlock all the designs.
Another great app that organizes all your photos is Shoebox.
It is free for unlimited photo backup and your photos are available everywhere – you can view them on your phone, tablet or computer (in-app purchases are also available). Another great feature of Shoebox is it will provide a little daily reminder showing you pictures that were taken on that date last year, 2 years ago, etc. It makes for super fun memories.
On this date a year ago my dog was less than impressed with her new hippo toy (below, left) and 2 years ago my niece looked adorable while opening Christmas gifts (below, right).
You can also review timelines of photos by month and year.
Lastly, all of these pictures need to be printed out (something we are all guilty of – taking pictures and leaving them on our phones indefinitely). I like using the Printicular app.
Printicular works with Walgreens, so you can easily upload photos to the nearest Walgreens and get 1-hour service (they also have an option to have photos mailed to you if you aren’t close to a Walgreens). You can upload pictures from your phone and social networks, including Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, Dropbox and more. It is a free app and you can receive 30% off of your print job with code MEAM. Plus, you can print 4x4”, 4x6”, 8x8” and more.
Are there any photo apps that you consider a must have? Leave us a comment!
