Looking for a quick and easy craft? Try out this fun mini book you can make from ONE sheet of 12 x 12" paper. It is a simple craft that you can make with kids, as a little "brag book" for grandparents, fill it with quotes or your favorite bible verses to keep in your purse for when you need a little pick-me-up, include one in a letter to a penpal and so many more options! Step-by-step instructions: 1. Select a piece of paper. You can use either one-sided or double-sided. For these albums a double-sided piece was used - one from the Carta Bella Beach Day Collection and one from the KaiserCraft Boho Dreams Collection. It is nice to use paper and sitckers from these types of collections/packs because adding coordinating paper and stickers to the mini book is a breeze! 2. Trim off the bottom 4" of your 12x12" piece of patterned paper. Set this aside for creating your mini book cover. 3. Take the 8x12" piece of patterned paper. Fold in half lengthwise (or use a scoreboard to mark). Next, fold the paper breadthwise in half and each half in half again or score in 3 inch intervals. You will have 8 scored panels measuring 3x4" each. 4. Cut along the fold lengthwise, cutting across only 3 panels (leave the first panel still connect). See picture below. 5a. Bring the uncut panel together as shown and glue together to create a page. 5b. Glue the 2nd and 3rd panel together to form a page; glue the 6th and 7th pages together to form a page. You now have a front and back page of single page thickness and three inside pages of double page thickness. 6a. Create a cover using the remaining 4x12" patterned paper. 6b. Trim off the excess paper and glue the cover to the front and back sheets of the mini book. Keep the excess paper to use as extra embellishment inside the mini book. 7. Decorate the cover and inside pages with stickers, coordinating paper, washi tape, quotes, pictures, mini drawings, and more. The possibilities are truly endless with these cute mini books! If you make a mini book, please be sure to share a picture on Facebook or Instagram using #paletteandpapercreation. We can't wait to see what you make!

Palette & Paper is excited to host a week-long day-camp for kids ages 8-10 and 11-13. We’ve received the requests from many to offer this type of fun opportunity, and we are happy to be able to offer such an exciting week for the kids! Our counselors, Cindy Kelle and Molly Petrous, are hard at work coordinating activities and crafts that will keep your kids active and excited during their week at camp. Cindy is a veteran crafter that has shared many of her skills at Palette & Paper with classes ranging from decorating canvas totes, handlettering, artist trade cards and leading our monthly Bible Journaling Groups. Molly is currently studying at the Herron School of Art and is thrilled to be joining in on the camp fun. Above is just a small example of the items your child will have the opportunity to create at camp.
Did you know that the camp experience, including day camps, is recognized by child development professionals as valuable in helping children mature socially, emotionally, intellectually, morally, and physically? Peter Scales, Ph.D wrote, "The biggest plus of camp is that camps help young people discover and explore their talents, interests, and values. Most schools don't satisfy all these needs. Kids who have had these kinds of (camp) experiences end up being healthier and have less problems which concern us all." (Source) We are happy to be able to offer the week-long day-camp for only $175, especially considering other similar camps in the Indianapolis area cost more and only offer 2-4 hours of camp per day versus the 6 hours daily we are hosting. If you have any questions regarding Kaleidoscope Kids Craft Camp, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or email. Registration deadline is May 30, 2016.
