Inspiration from Music

Music, as Longfellow says, is the universal language of mankind, and I have to say I agree.  Music can build a bridge between cultures despite language barriers, help you wind down after a crazy day at work, make you feel like you are 16 again when an “oldie” comes on the radio, and so much more.  Music is a huge part of a lot of people’s lives, so it makes sense that music often finds its way into our other creative ventures, such as scrapbooking, card making, holiday crafts, mixed media canvases and more.

Next Wednesday, crafters will be trading Artist Trading Cards with a Music theme here at P&P (click here for more information, we would love for you to join us!).  With an awesome theme like Music I am sure the ATCs created will be gorgeous and as unique as the maker.  Here’s some great inspiration if you haven’t started on yours yet.

Thinking about Christmas in July

7/20/2017

There is no doubt about it – I love Christmas and the holiday season.  As we head for winter months, I always have great plans to hand make cards, gift tags, gifts for friends, family, neighbors and more.  I start brainstorming in November.  Then inevitably next thing I know it is mid-December, and I am just trying to hold on and get through the holiday with my store bought cards and generic, sticky gift tags.

So, this year I am making a plan (in my planner, but that’s a whole other blog post) to get started on my Christmas Crafts NOW!  You know what they say, no time like the present!  I thought I would share some of the inspiration that I’ve come across in hopes that it helps inspire you (and seriously, looking at Christmas Crafts makes me feel better in this hot and sticky weather we are having this week).

My first goal is to make handmade cards and gift tags, so I thought today’s inspiration would focus on that.

I love how they repurposed the mason jar stamp to make a little snow globe complete with sequins.

Kraft paper equals Christmas to me.  I love the rustic feel and it makes me a little nostalgic.  One of my mom’s favorite themes to wrap holiday gifts in is with classic kraft paper and fun accessories – ribbons, bows, twine, etc.

Kraft paper combined with white and bakers twine makes this card a triple winner in my book!

I love how this card combines holiday with the cutesy vibe of Avery Elle and Lawn Fawn (plus it may have made me sing a few bars of this song).  Seeing this one little card opened up so many ideas in my head for using the “slider” dies too!

This card would be fantastic for using up scrap paper.  Get busy cutting circles (by hand, with circle punches or with a die cutting machine), add some pop dots and boom - - you are in business!

Gift Tags
You now know how I feel about kraft paper, so I just had to share these tags.  Also, check out the tree one - - they made the little trees with heart punches.  Such a light bulb moment (that I am totally going to use)!

Need help making the little bows for these tags – check out this great little pictorial.

Love the texture this tag has – use snow paint or texture paste (add glitter for extra sparkle) to create a similar look.

Have you seen the awesome packages you can put together with a color theme?  Like these adorable “Box of Sunshine” packages?  I made one of these a couple of years back to send to a friend, her husband and kids.  She said it brought smiles to all of their faces (that was the plan!)
